05/06/2020

Individuals are eligible for a subsidy of 4000 euros when leasing or purchasing a new electric car. For a used car that is 2000 euros. They can submit their application from 1 July. The subsidy scheme for electric passenger cars has been published in the Government Gazette on 4 June 2020. The Dutch cabinet wants to encourage clean transport and make it accessible to everyone in the long term.

A private individual who buys or leases a fully electric passenger car in the smaller or compact middle class on or after 4 June 2020 is eligible for the Subsidy for Electric Passenger Cars Private Individuals (SEPP). The subsidy scheme is for both new and used electric passenger cars. The total available budget for 2020 is € 17.2 million. The subsidy scheme runs from July 1, 2020 to July 1, 2025, unless the budget is used up earlier.

To qualify for the subsidy scheme, the electric passenger car must meet the following conditions:

  • A 100% electric passenger car with a range * of at least 120 kilometers.
  • The list price * (original new price) is not lower than € 12,000 and not higher than € 45,000.
  • The car is produced as an electric passenger car and may not be converted into an electric car.

The subsidy can only be applied for after a purchase or lease agreement has been concluded.
